Moisture mapping shows where water has traveled and which building materials are still wet. It helps restoration technicians determine the drying area and track progress during water damage restoration.
What the Job Involves
Technicians use moisture meters and other detection equipment to measure moisture in drywall, flooring, subfloors, ceilings, and structural materials. Readings are mapped to identify wet areas that may not be visible.
Signs You Need It
- Recent leaks or flooding
- Damp or soft drywall
- Buckled flooring
- Musty odors
- Water stains
- Suspected hidden moisture
How the Work Goes
The affected area is visually inspected first. Moisture readings are taken at multiple locations and compared with unaffected materials to establish drying targets. The affected areas are documented and rechecked during the drying process to confirm moisture levels are returning to appropriate conditions.
What Affects the Cost
Cost depends on the size of the affected area, number of rooms, accessibility, type of building materials, and amount of moisture present. Hidden moisture behind walls or beneath flooring can require more extensive testing.
